YouTube TV vs Sling TV: Plans & Channels
Compare YouTube TV and Sling TV by channel fit, local coverage, recording, simultaneous streams and renewal cost before choosing a US live-TV package.

YouTube TV and Sling TV are live-TV subscriptions, rather than player apps that you fill with an M3U playlist. Start with your required channels and home location. A cheaper package is only a saving if it carries the programmes your household actually watches.

| Question | YouTube TV | Sling TV |
|---|---|---|
| Which package? | Check the main bundle versus narrower packages | Compare Orange, Blue and the other current packages |
| Local channels? | Use the home ZIP-code lookup | Check the selected package and your location |
| Multiple viewers? | Review household and stream conditions | Limits can differ by package and channel |
| What is the real cost? | Renewal amount plus required add-ons | Base package plus channel extras and upgrades |
Choose by your channel list first
Write down the five networks or programmes you would miss if you cancelled your current service. Look each one up in the actual package offered to your address. A service carrying a sports network does not establish that every fixture is included; separate event rights and add-ons may matter.
YouTube TV publishes a ZIP-code channel lookup. Sling’s comparison separates its packages and extras. Use those tools side by side and record the exact package name next to each must-have channel. Do not compare one service’s full bundle with the other’s smallest offer and assume they provide the same thing.
Check how the household watches
A TV in the living room, a second TV elsewhere and a phone away from home are three different use cases. Ask how simultaneous viewing, home-area rules and travel apply to each. A list of devices that can install an app is not the same as the number that can watch at once.
YouTube’s location help explains how the home area affects viewing and recording. Sling directs viewers to package-specific streaming rules. Check those rules for the channels you use together, rather than treating a maximum stream count as a promise for every combination.
Test recording and programme discovery
If you usually watch after a programme airs, try the recording or library workflow before committing. Find one show, schedule it, return later and check whether the episode is where you expect. Check retention and playback restrictions in the current plan terms.
For a household sharing one TV, also test switching profiles or finding a saved programme with the remote. Those everyday tasks can matter more than an advertised catalogue size. This is a suggested evaluation process, not a report that we tested either subscription.
Compare the first bill and the renewal bill
Create two totals for each service: the amount due now and the amount due after an introductory offer. Include every required extra, applicable tax or fee, and any separate sports purchase. Prices and offers change, so check the provider checkout rather than relying on an old price in a comparison article.
A useful decision rule is cost per household, not cost per advertised channel. If both services meet your channel, location and device needs, choose the offer whose total and ongoing terms you understand. If neither meets those needs, keep looking rather than paying for the wrong bundle.
